OHROPAX Classic

These little spheres have already brought peace and quiet to millions of people plagued by the noise of our modern era and have set the ball rolling for an entire company. OHROPAX Classic

OHROPAX Classic has been a well-established noise protection product since 1907. Its unique composition, which consists of cotton wool soaked in a mixture of petroleum jelly and a variety of paraffin waxes, was so well conceived from the outset that it has barely changed right up to the present day.

The OHROPAX success story began at the outset of the 20th century in the vibrant German capital city of Berlin, a location that was then a synonym for lively hustle and bustle, never-ending noise and a hectic entry into a new era. It was here that the resourceful pharmacist Maximilian Negwer brought his sound-insulating balls of wax onto the market for general use as the first product of their kind. Inspired by Homer's famous depiction of the Greek hero Odysseus, who plugged his sailors' ears with balls of beeswax to protect them from the deadly melody of the Sirens, Negwer literally created his own classic in the form of OHROPAX, which has been bringing the luxury of peace and quiet to users right up to the present day.

OHROPAX Classic is extremely comfortable to wear and is therefore ideally suited for a peaceful night's sleep without disturbances. It is also a convenient aid for general relaxation and for use during meditation exercises, reading and any work that require concentration, DIY activities and loud music. Thanks to its tight seal, OHROPAX also provides protection against moisture and wind.

The discrete skin-coloured earplugs can be moulded to fit every ear and significantly reduce the effects of noise exposure. The fact that the soft and pliable skin-friendly material fits securely into the ear means that the earplugs are extremely comfortable to wear and produce no feeling of pressure.

1. Before inserting the earplugs, use clean fingers to fully remove the cotton wool. If you need to make the plug smaller, do so by tearing off some of the wax material. Do not reuse any material that you have removed from the earplugs!

2. Knead the earplug until it is soft and then form a smooth and sufficiently sized ball that you can lightly push into the opening of your ear canal to form a tight seal. Do not push the earplug deep into your ear canal!

3. Once you have finished with the earplug, carefully remove it using only your fingers. You can loosen the earplug by lightly pressing on the auricle from behind. Do not use any hard or pointed objects when removing your earplugs!

Before using this product for situations involving loud noise, please first check whether the earplug is suitable for the exposure in question. You can do so by taking the sound insulation values and safety instructions into account (see product information).

Sound Insulation in Accordance with EN 24869-1

OHROPAX Classic exhibits high sound insulation values over the entire frequency range.

How can I find out whether the product is suitable for a certain noise exposure?

1. Determine the level of the sound exposure (in dB) at the frequency in question (for example by referring to the device specifications).

2. Subtract the corresponding assumed protection value (also known as the APV and shown as "Angen. Schutz" [Assumed Protection Level] in the table above) from the sound level.

3. If the result of this subtraction is below 85dB, the product will sufficiently protect your ears against the sound. This applies to a daily exposure period of up to 8 hours.

You can also use the following (approximate) average values for a simpler calculation:
• SNR value (single number rating, general insulation)
• H-value (high, for higher frequencies)
• M-value (medium, for midrange frequencies)
• L-value (low, for lower frequencies)

Example: A device produces a sound level of 100 dB at a frequency of 1000 Hz. OHROPAX Classic insulates this applied sound by 22.6 dB (the assumed protection value (APV)) at this frequency. A noise exposure of 77.4 dB remains. OHROPAX Classic is suitable for this use because the resulting value is below 85 dB.

Uses for OHROPAX Classic

Private Use
OHROPAX Classic is extremely comfortable to wear and is therefore ideal when relaxing and for an undisturbed sleep. It is also recommended for usage during work requiring concentration, DIY activities and loud music.

At the Workplace

  • OHROPAX Classic is particularly suitable for use in so-called 'non-classic noise areas' such as large offices and computer centres (noise level: <75 dB(A)).
  • Once it has been inserted into the ear, OHROPAX Classic is immediately ready for use. In contrast to foam plugs, you do not have to wait for these plugs to expand.
  • These earplugs do not cause sweating and pressure on the auricle as is the case with capsule ear protectors.
  • People who wear glasses can wear these earplugs without any problems.
  • The earplugs can be combined with protective helmets, protective goggles and capsule ear protectors.
  • Speech and warning signals can still be noticed because the earplugs insulate sound but do not completely shut it out.
  • Due to the materials used, OHROPAX Classic is not suitable for use in warm workplaces or those containing large amounts of dirt and/or dust.

Tolerability
OHROPAX Classic is considered to be extremely tolerable. The product contains no ingredients that are known to cause allergies. Sometimes it may take a while to get used to hearing protection. We therefore recommend that you gradually increase the length of time to wear your earplugs. In rare cases, you may initially hear your own pulse when wearing the earplugs. This effect will normally go away after a short period of adjustment.
